So my second blog post for the summer is probably going to be quite long…. I’ll try not to bore you too much. I’ll start with fun stuff.
Every summer for the last 16 summers I’ve been painting sea shells and selling them for 25₵. My little stand sits out at the end of the walkway at my beach house with a little honesty cup. You’re probably thinking I don’t make that much money each summer…. But I do. The most I’ve made in one summer was a little shy of $150. Although it usually averages around $90 or $100. Ya that’s a lot of shells… like 400 a lot of shells. I enjoy painting them though. And now onto the punch of the story. All these 16 years I’ve painted shells and people come back every year. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a few families. They’re always surprised to find out that I’m so old. Haha. But they always tell me how much they look forward to buying shells each year and what not. And not once have I had a shell painted for me, until this year. I was at the beach early to skimboard so I missed my shell getting dropped off. But when I came back my mum handed me a shell and said a little girl dropped this off for you. Mind the little girl was 8 or 9.I was totally touched! And I totally love the shell. Check it out.
Editing and writing of any form have been slow going this summer… I keep getting distracted or I’m too addicted to the beach. This is why I’m looking forward to school… anyhow most of my time lately has gone to reading my friend Ryan’s book. He bugs me allllll the time to read his book faster and I always tell him that I’m working on my book, which is a lie, but it angers him and it’s funny to get him mad. I’ve also been babysitting. Which is super good because now I have book money for the school year! It makes me so excited.
I’ve also been making friendship bracelets, you know the ones that you make out of the floss. It’s something the kids I babysit for were making and I was a bit jealous that they had such mad skills and they’re half my age. So I went home looked up online how to do it and I taught myself. I was so proud of me! And now I have cooler bracelets then they do because I can follow all they complicated patterns that they don’t have the patience to do. Hehehe. I know it’s bad but I feel so much cooler that I can make cooler bracelets then an eight-year-old.
Okay so tonight my writer’s group is putting on an open mic night at the library and I was trying to come up with something to read. I’ve been looking through all my creative writing poems and what not but nothing fit or I didn’t deem it good enough (mainly because there are people in the group that have mad poem skills and I didn’t want to be shamed). Finally like two hours ago I came up with a stunning idea…. I’m going to read from my novel! I’m just going to read the first part of my novel! I’m brilliant right.
Oh yes and my new compy!!! I FINALLY got it last week. It works wonderfully and I love him. I named him Beyard. I’ve already started covering him in stickers. He’ll be all super good looking for school in no time.
And that’s it for now!
