Laini Taylor Signing

Blog Challenge Day 4!

Did I mention I got to see my favourite author?

Well I did. And my little fangirl heart almost couldn’t handle it.

Laini Taylor was in South Hadley Massachusetts. Odyssey Bookshop sponsored her being at the local college. And me being me didn’t mind driving 4 and a half hours for it. Mind you this time included traffic and don’t forget the “lovely” Connecticut drivers on CT-15!! Gosh gotta love Connecticut drivers and their inability to use proper following distances at 70mph. It’s just lovely…… not.

But what was lovely was the fact that I got to see Laini Taylor. She’s legit the most down to earth person. And the questions asked were really good ones. For instance they wanted to know what kind of Chimera she would be, Madrigal (if you were curious).

I had asked for advice for finding an agent. She said she found hers by going to a Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) conference. I’d never heard of the SCBWI before so it was insanely helpful to me. Since then I’ve done my research, there’s the New Jersey chapter of the SCBWI conference in June, the deadline is next month for registration. Needless to say I’m getting my shit together to try and make it. For that information alone it was worth the drive.

What made the day the best? I got books signed! It’s my newest addiction is to have signed books. I bought the whole Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. It’s going to look amazing on my book shelf! Woo!

I think I did really good acting my age when she was signing my books…. I tried.

Plus it was really cool to hear her talk on her writing habits and what not. Because here’s the thing I don’t know any other people who are writers. So I don’t have a baseline to see if what I do is normal or not. And to hear another author speak about their habits and have the run pretty close to mine was a relief. It also makes me want to go to a coffee shop to start writing a bit.

Because lately I’ve been thinking about how my mind literally is always on writing. And then I was like well do most people just sit down and write in a linear fashion. Because I tend not to. I like to write up cool scenes and save them for later and link them in. I mean yeah I sort of write linearly but if something really good comes in my head I just have to write it before I lose it. I’ve lost some good scenes by not writing them down when I first entertained them, oh well guess they weren’t good enough for my books then. So to hear Laini Taylor talk about her writing style and how she came up with the idea for Daughter of Smoke and bone I was like, cool I’m totally normal.

All in all it was a really great day and I had a blast and a half! I need to manifest more of my favourite authors to come to the east coast! I’m so addicted to seeing them.

Signing

Last night I was at the opera! It was so amazing and way fun and just awesome! I had so much fun. We ate at a really nice Afghani resistant called Ariana at 787 9th Avenue. Check out the website. It was such amazingly good food! Then we walked the few blocks to the Met.

Okay so today was my signing! It was totally awesome. Eight people showed up and we sold seven book! So that mean I get to donate $42 to the food pantry! So seriously it was such an awesome signing. Basically the best part of the day was when two of the girls I knew from after care came with their dad. It made my day and it was nice to see them and talk to them! They are the sweetest girls and I’ve missed seeing them at aftercare so it was super cool that they came to see me today! I have pictures from the signing. I’ll post the ones of me and my signing table when I get back to school (I don’t have my camera chord. Lol). Over all I couldn’t have asked for a better first signing! So thank you everyone who came!

Random Update

Hey ya,

Happy Saturday! It’s quite a weird day… I mean it’s all windy and looks sort of cloudy… but I’m starting to see blue sky… I think the weather can’t makes its mind up. But whatever. So last night I posted the last chapter to my FanFic! It’s officially 25 chapters long and over 100,000 words. Wow. Yay for me and my loserness. But it’s way cool cause I’m getting all these comments from people about how good it was and how they are going to miss it. It’s like someone’s dying instead of a story ending. Haha. But I put up a poll to see what they wanted me to write next and a lot want a sequel… so we’ll see. But on the upside if I ever wanted to take the story line and make it a novel I’d already be like halfway there. Hahaha. Cause I do rather like the plot line. Lots of twists and almost death. Oh man when I posted making it look like one of the main characters died I got soooo many comments from people saying they were upset. And I just laughed cause I knew he didn’t die. Muahahaha I’m so evil. I do love character deaths though. Hehe. Mainly because no one ever see it coming and if they do then they’re like oh they’ll be coming back from the dead and I’m just like nope. They’re dead and I enjoy it. Yes I’m a bit weird. Oh and I’m starting to count the days down till the end of the semester! So just a heads up when it gets down to two weeks I got this grand idea to makes lists of stuff I would and wouldn’t miss so I’ll start posting those this coming Friday!! Yay. Oh just a random note I went through my facebook friends and just deleted 36 people cause I was like um… I’m friends with you… why? Or it was someone who was a major asshole. Lol I’m happy I don’t have a lot of friends on facebook cause in reality I don’t have many friends. Funny right? Any how enjoy your day!

Laters,

A little bit of tid bits

Good Evening…. Well it’s actually night…..

So I’ve been really itchy to order my books for my signing I wanted to do over break and my school visits… but as it is I have yet to hear back from my publishers on getting a discount or whatev and I haven’t gotten any good ones in my email lately. As I’m sure you’ve guessed I’ve been antsy. So I decided a few things just about not. (1) I’m having my signing over spring break cause even if I ordered now it take 5-21 days for the books to get here. (2) I will not have books on me at my school visits. I’m going to take orders and money at the visits and then drop the books off at school after they’ve come in and I’ve signed them. (3) I’m sooooo excited for school visits!!

In other news I’m still writing bundles. I’m very happy cause I’m rapidly approaching the end of The Snowy Waste which means… dun, dun, dun… editing *screams*. Actually I sort of look forward to it cause I can buff up and smooth out some rough spots and perhaps add another little plot tid bit… I’m still debating on it though… because there is a huge list of pros and cons for adding it… it would be really cool but at the same time I have quite a bit going on and it might over complicate it so I’m not too sure yet. It’s rather frustrating cause I’ve rolling this idea around since this summer and well it’s the end of December so I should probably make up my mind soon. Who knows I might write it and if I don’t like it then I can take it out. One of the beauties of editing is you look it over before handing it to the publisher. But I must admit I hate editing and reviewing academic writing… that’s probably cause all my papers are on boring topics. Haha. But I’ve still got another 20 days till I have to worry about papers again. So I’m going to focus on my book! Night. Night!
